Simply put, we are friends who discovered that our Way of Living was becoming more simpler - with many of the modern conveniences available to us today. Its scary to think that what we put in or on our bodies might, one day, become a contributing factor to diseases or conditions we have later on life. From the start of our day we wash our faces, brush our teeth, wash our hair, put on lotion, shave, apply makeup. Many of these products contain synthetic materials which have been controversially thought to be carcinogens that we willfully place on our bodies.
As a disease-fearing mother of two, I have been abruptly taught the hard lesson of my own mortality by just giving birth. I quickly realized the stark reality of just simply wanting to always be there for my kids and their kids, and if I'm lucky enough, possibly their kids' kids! And that made me start to read labels, subscribe to links for websites containing information on natural living and be more aware of how I lived my life day-to-day. Heck - I even use cloth diapers for two reasons, 1) because I read somewhere the chemicals in diapers have been thought to cause future reproductive problems and 2) because I'm cheap, and we needed to figure out how to save some money for me to stay-home with our first born, since I quit my corporate legal job.
But I digress...this new-found awareness comes a cost. A more beneficial cost to my family but also a huge cost on our bank account. Unless we won the lottery, we wouldn't be able to live completely Organic lives, but there are some things I could do to help my family, which were affordable solutions to this one-income, stay-at-home-mom home. One way, was not always buying "Organic" even though I wish I could afford living this way. To give you an example, I've thought to myself when struggling at the grocery store, "How did they grow a Sugar Maple Tree in an ABSOLUTE Organic condition to ensure that the roots didn't touch any pesticides or other chemicals on the ground which can justify me buying this organic maple syrup? I think I can save $15/gallon if I buy it from the Amish at the local Farm Market - and it's Natural Maple Syrup, not the Aunt-Corn-Syrup-Maple-Syrup I can get at the store."
The Maple Syrup Moral of the Story, sometimes buying an item which is truly "Natural" was enough to satisfy my fears.
I'm hoping you will join us on this journey to create a better Way of Living for our families and help us find new/ creative/ affordable ways of living less chemically-driven lives.
